Using pressure cooker has become a savior ever since I moved to US, growing up we never made kanji (rice porridge) or cooked Dal in a pressure cooker. However now, cooking with pressure cooker is as easy and fast as 1, 2, 3.
Spilling from the spout is a regular phenomena and I have tried many tips.
This is the best of the lot which I did by sheer accident. I always stay near the pressure cooker counting the number of whistle and this time I had a clean towel with me for some other chore, when the pressure started coming I lowered the flame and kept the towel around the spout and caught the spillage into the towel, and LO it worked and then again when the flame was increased, the whistle started blowing I kept the towel around.
I tried using paper tissues too and it worked well.
I wouldn’t use paper tissue again, as I am not interested in wasting paper. the towel I just need to wash and dry and its perfect.
Try this avoid the mess and stand near the cooker to manage this. if you want to leave the cooker keep the towel around the spout forming an island.
